The Klaus Flugge Prize 2023 Longlist!

I am so thrilled to announce that the 'The Baker by the Sea' has made the longlist for the Klaus Flugge Prize 2023!

Established in 2016, the Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s picture book illustration. It honours Klaus Flugge, founder of publisher Andersen Press and a supremely influential figure in picture books.

Over forty books were submitted and from 25 different publishing houses; 16 have made it to the longlist. Independent publishers including small presses UCLan, Lantana, Child’s Play, Flying Eye and Book Island are all represented, while Walker dominates with three books on the list.

I was so chuffed to make the longlist for the Yoto Carnegies! What an absolute honour and how amazing to be part of such talented illustrators too! Good luck to all the shortlisters!!

The USBBY 2023 Outstanding International Book List!

SO, so sooo excited to be selected for this amazing honour list for 2023!

Beginning in 2006, USBBY has selected an honor list of international books for young people. The USBBY Outstanding International Books List is published each year in the February issue of School Library Journal and as a bookmark.

The Outstanding International Books (OIB) committee is charged with selecting international books that are deemed most outstanding of those published during the calendar year. For th
e purposes of this honor list, the term "international book" is used to describe a book published or distributed in the United States that originated or was first published in a country other than the U.S.

The AOI World Illustration Awards 2022 Short List!

Wow! Out of so many entries, we made the longlist first and then we made the shortlist! 

"The Baker by the Sea" has now made it through to the World Illustration Awards 2022 Shortlist! The shortlist of 200 projects, has been selected from over 5,000 entries from 77 countries following a rigorous and competitive judging process

'The Baker by the Sea' was selected for the World Illustration Awards 2022 for the Children's Publishing Category. You can find out more info here

The Baker by the Sea - FIRST BOOK SIGNING EVENT!

The Klaus Flugge Prize 2023

I am so pleased to announce that I will be having my first book signing event here in my hometown of Lowestoft,

and of course, the home to our historic Beach Village and all the characters in the book.

From 12-2pm

The Baker by the Sea - on BBC LOOK EAST!

The BBC Look East crew came to film myself and the book at my home on Monday!

It was an interesting and nerve-racking experience, but amazing too!

They filmed in my studio and also on location at the site of the historic Beach Village

in Lowestoft. The book looked wonderful on the big screen!

Thanks to Mike and his crew for such a brilliant morning and for supporting the book!

I will try to upload a video of the feature when I work out how to! :)

 

NEWS!! "The Baker by the Sea" - RELEASE DATE!!

I am so pleased to share with you that the 'Baker by the Sea' will be published on 26th May 2022!

It is available for pre-order from online bookstores and can of course your local bookshops.

I have had an amazing journey bringing this special story to life and would like to thank

the team at Templar for all of your help and support, especially Genevieve, my art director

Templar Illustration Prize 2019

 

 I am very delighted and over the moon to announce that I was awarded the 2019 Templar 
Illustration Prize for my Bread, Buns and Biscuit story, at an event hosted by Nomad Books
in Fulham, London on September the 18th . The story is a non-fiction picture book, inspired
by my grandfather Percy who decided to become a baker in a world built around the fishing
trade. The competition was judged by Templar Authors and illustrators Jonny Duddle,
Lara Hawthorne, Lucia Gaggiotti and Fran-Preston Gannon.

The Grit Book Launch 2019


The launch date for the wonderful revised edition of ‘The Grit’ has been decided, all going to plan
I can share this date very soon!
I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been asked to illustrate the cover, end papers and 
chapter illustrations for the revised edition of ‘The Grit’ – a book about my home towns historic 
beach village which has been a huge influence in my work. Thank you Dean and Naomi for asking
me to be involved in a subject very close to my heart. Watch this space for details of the launch.

Snape Maltings Gallery Winter Exhibition


I’ve been invited to be part of this year’s winter exhibition at the wonderful Snape Maltings Gallery in Snape, Suffolk. Illustrations from ‘Bread, Buns and Biscuits’ were spotted online and the gallery manager contacted me for a meeting. Limited edition giclee prints from ‘Bread, Buns and Biscuits’ will be available at the gallery this winter as will my original linocut prints.

‘Bread, Buns, Biscuits’ and I are shocked and delighted to have made the shortlist for the annual ‘Templar Illustration Prize’ 2019! I can’t quite believe it!! I’m one of nine talented illustrators who have made that list. I am in over the moon!! (Not Herring Moon btw) Wish us luck!!! Winners announced in September, it’s going to be a long wait.

Earlier in the year, I applied to be part of this year’s Norwich Print Fair. I’m pleased to say that I’ve been selected! I have tried a few times before over the years and it’s really hard to get in, so I am extra happy! Now for a summer of printmaking! Bologna Children's Book Fair 2018: March 23rd - 29th


Once again, ‘Herring Moon’ is off to the Bologna book fair. It’s taking ‘Bread, Buns and Biscuit’ and my portfolio with it for company this year. Good luck to all of my class mates on the Cambridge School of Art Stand!
The Book fair is one of the biggest events in the children’s book publishing world. It’s the place to be for publishers, illustrators and agents and all the professions involved in content for children.

Exciting News!


I’ve been asked to produce the illustrations and cover for a book on a subject very close to my heart.
My ‘Herring Moon’ drawings were spotted and I was asked to meet with two lovely people about being involved in the revised edition of a non-fiction book about my home town and our historic Beach Village – a subject I have been interested in before ‘Herring Moon’ was even a twinkle in my eye. I’m honoured and excited about being involved with this amazing book!
